Default LT500 Stator and Carb Questions.

The coil pickup on my LT500 broke (literally), so I yanked the side cover to replace it. After pulling the flywheel, I noticed that two of the "coils" behind the flywheel are red, while the third is black. Is that right? Is there anyway to test these coils to make sure they're performing correcting? What is their expected resistance (ohms)?

Here is a picture.

Help is appreciated!

Also, my 500 is bored 100 over, has a cool head (although I don't know the dome size), and is running a Keihin carb. The jets are 175 and 65. Does this sound about right? That seems a bit small, but I don't know jack.

Thanks.

Default LT500 Stator and Carb Questions.

Two of the coils are for your lights they generate the power for the head and tail light, the other is for the ignition and is called the magneto coil. The coils with red/yellow wire are the lighting coils the coil with the black/red wire is the coil which generates the power for the ignition. The lighting coil resistance should be measured between the yellow/red wire and the Black/white wire the range should be .5 - 1.0 ohms range x1. Another way to test the lighting coils is to start the engine run it at 3000 rpm and 8000 rpm with the lighting switch turned off. Using a voltage tester the output should be above 12V at 3000 rpm and below 18V at 8000 rpm. The magneto coil resistance should be measured between the Blue wire and the Black/white for the pick-up this should measure between 175-265 ohms range x100 and it should also be measured between the Black/red wire and the black/white wire for the power source this should measure between 315-475 ohms range x100. Hope this helps. It can all be found in section 6 of the Suzuki shop manual for the LT 500.

As for the carb, read the plug, to check the jetting. I personally don't like the Keihin carb. I know everyone swears by them, I've just had better luck with Mikuni.
