I thought backfiring was a sign that you are running rich, correct?

bsb64,
that is correct however he said that the plugs looked good and clean. If it were running rich, the plugs would be black.

Bike#1: But if it was running rich the plug would have been black. An engine will usually run if it's really rich, just wont run good. This thing would go "pop"pop"pop" from 60 mph untill it totally stoped.

I was thinking maybe somethin in the mag that was changing the timing or something. if the timing got way off it could make it backfire.

This is a warranty issue you would be foolish not to take it in that way there would be some history with this so if it happens again or there is damage to the engine after the warranty is gone

On bike #1, try pulling off the electrcal connector on the handlebar under the front brake.Did the problem just start or has it been doing this ever since they bought the bike?

To me, I still dont see how both bikes would act the same. My raptor did that but it seems like it did it in cold weather but when it got hotter nothing changed. I did the valve adjustment and it fixed it. But I dont think two bikes would be doing the same thing, thats why I think something got touched. That is odd or you got the two in 50 that does the same thing.

Well, They don't have exactly the same problem. #1 runs fine untill it quits. #2 pops constantly but never dies.

I told the girl to loosen the gas cap and see if it still dies. She wont go out again untill the weekend after next. So I wont know for a couple of weeks on her bike.

Was hoping for an easy fix like a loose connection or something. They belong to my friends so I have no say-so in the repair, I can only offer info to them.

Btw: My mojave towed them both back to camp

It doesnt matter where you take them for warrenty, Susuki pays the dealer , they could care less (the new deaaler) I had the same thing with my truck. I went to the new dealer, asked for the service manager , explained I never felt comfortable with dealer #1 and was looking to establish a long term relationship with a dealer for my parts and service. DO NOT BAD MOUTH dealer #1, just explain you dont feel comfortable. If you run down dealer #1 to #2 ,The new service manager may think you will be a pain in the *** and not even attempt to please you.
