lt250r differences between years
There are a few things changed between the years, first let's go with the 85-86 models. They have 5 speed transmissions, use a (I am brain dead this morning) I believe it is called case reeds (reeds are actually not in a seperate reed cage but instead bolt to underside of jug). Frames are different, front more considerably so than the rear of the frame, the shock lengths are longer in the 87 up models, MUCH nicer and easier to adjust chain tension on the 85-86 models, it uses the bearing housing that rotates in the swingarm, instead of push pull bolts. The 87-90 models have 6 speeds, power valve, and the frame changes as said earlier. The 91-92 model uses a "linkage-less" rear shock instead of the linkage type the others use, port timing is probably different from year to year. The 87-92 models use the reed cage setup also. That is the major differences I can think of, as to which is better. Well, I have an 86 and a 92. My 92 I haven't ridden yet, but I have owned a 87 and am rebuilding a 90 now for a friend. I personally like the 86 better then the others, but my 92 is going to be special, personalize to my liking, no expense spared. So I will see then. 85 and 86 are able to be picked up cheap, then the price goes up from them. So get what you can afford, and make sure it is in good condition, you'll like all of them.
