Default Cannondale bites the dust

From RacerX:

Cannondale Shuts Down

Racer X has learned that the Cannondale motorcycle project may be over. The company closed its Bedford and Bethel plants, in Pennsylvania, today, marking the end of production on motorcycles and quadcycles, as well as the bicycles that come out of those buildings. The ambitious Cannondale motorcycle project had been troubled from the start, though it appeared they were turning a corner recently, especially in the quadcycle market. However, several calls have come in from people close to the company saying that Cannondale did not make the payroll this week and had shut its doors. We will let you know more on this breaking story.

This apparently has been confirmed by several sources in the Cannondale forum.

So...what quad can we make fun of now? Hehe....oh yeah, we still have Polaris! Just kidding. Cannondales were pretty cool and had some awesome features that no one else has come out with yet. But, they were kind of junky.

Firstly they didnt bite the dust. And what are you talking about kinda junky? When I bought mine I was looking at the Predator, Z400, & Speed.....the Speed is by far the best built out of those 3, you must not know anything about welding or engineering to say something like that, I guess a weak MIG welded chassis is better than a high quality TIG welded one huh? But dont worry the Suzuki was built better than the Predator or any Yamaha.

Nothing like getting under the skin of Cannondale owners Ok, so they aren't junk but they *did* have some major motor and other miscellaneous problems when they first started up. There were recalls almost every month for awhile . To Cannondales credit, they did fix these recalls for free and at least admitted there were problems unlike some of the Jap manufacturers who won't. I remember when the bike came out they actually stopped production because there were so many problems. I do hear about some lingering problems from time to time but they do seem to be pretty solid these days.

As for welding, I never mentioned anything about that. I have not heard or read about frame problems so nothing to argue about there. I am sure they either will come out of this eventually or sell off as mentioned on ATV Scene a week or two ago.

Nothing junky about them..... Just over priced! Sales prove it..... They say they lost money on every quad they sold. I'm sure that's due to figuring in the R&D costs into the sale of each quad and motorcycle. If they lost money at those prices, Polaris must be losing their *** with the $5,600 Predator.....

As long as the motor and all the electronics stay good, and have absolutely NO problems as long as I own my Dale, everything is just fine. Since I don't live in "Perfect U.S.A." just give me a little while and I'll be royally fu<ked. I'm kinda "stuck between a rock and a hard place." I can keep my quad and hope the motor never breaks down, I can dish out a lot of cash and get a CRF 450 motor stuffed in my frame, I can quit buying quads and switch to racing bikes, OR I can buy from one of the big 4 and putt around on a little scooter w/ 4 wheels, cause none of them are worth a **** unless they have a few G's in the motor.
