Default LT250R newbie question on starting

Just bought a '90 LT250R. I have never had a 2 stroke with kick start.

What is the best procedure for starting this quad. I don't have an owner's manual.

Does it have to be in neutral? Does the clutch have to be engaged?, etc...

It doesn't have to be in nuetral but that would be best. All I ever do with mine is put the choke on (if its cold of course) and kick it over once or twice.
