Z400 Cold Weather Starting Problem
#1
Has anybody had any problems starting there Z in cold weather. I had mine out riding when it was about 32 F and it started and ran great. I went to start it the other day and couldn't get it to fire. The weather has gotten colder (-20 to 10 F) and I was wondering if it was just the cold. It will turn over, but it just cranks away. Anybody else have this problem.
Thanks

I have the same problem with mine. Full choke, half-choke, no choke the thing just
does not want to fire when it is cold. (15 degrees F yesterday)
It finally hit.. just about the time I was going to quit trying and head for the house.
I really do not want to use starter fluid.

LT250KRF, good to hear from someone up north. I'll give it a few more chances before going to the starter fluid. Never been a huge fan of that stuff. My two 2 strokes fired right up, but I've know the 4 strokes are a little touchy in the cold. FsT4WrD it's good to know the extreme cold in Neveda isn't giving your KFX a problem starting. Maybe green is the way to go.....Not. I was just wonder if anybody could tell me what a "choke" is.....where do I find it.....is it a additive I can put in my gas...or can I bolt it right on. Just kidding......yes my choke was on, but thanks for at least trying to help.

i noticed on my z that sometime the choke cable will frezze and when you put the lever down you think it is working but it really isnt you got to be careful of that. other then that mine fire right up.

Ok all is good, thanks for the help....my Z is running again. Just took a little extra time on the starter. She had been sitting for a few weeks in this cold. I was just worried about running the battery out. Took a few minutes of idling with the choke on, but then she ran like a champ.

Also, the Z has a new feature, instead of the fuel cutoff it is controlled by vacuum, so the other position is PRIME for cold weather. Its been cold here lately and just fired it up the other day but at first it wouldnt start for a while, went into the house and realized the prime position on the fuel switch, and went outside and it fired up. Let us know if that helps you out.
