Default Z400 carb question

Once you remove the carb side cover, how do you remove or disconnect the throttle cable, I unscrewed the cable but that did nothing, so how do I disconnect the cable itself from the cam that opens the carb

1st make sure you have all the slack you can by adjusting the cable all the way in at both the thumb lever and the carb. Next rotate the cam under the plate that you removed clockwise untill it stops. While holding the cam in this position there should be quiet a bit of the cable starting to bunch up within. Take a pick or small srewdriver and loop it under the cable and pull the slack toward the round brass retainer. At this time the retainer should slide out on it's own...or fly across the shop LOL (you'll know what I mean after you do this two or three times). Removing the cable is the easy part, putting it back is another story. Good luck!!
