What is the best position to set the LRD pipe? I just picked up an 87 lt500 and want to dial it in.

 

I just picked up a LT 500 with an adjustable LRD pipe and called LRD to ask about it. They acted like they haven't made it in years. Does anyone know who to talk to there? Does any one know how to adjust it? It smokes from every seem, any suggestions, do they make a crush washer for the pipe where the pipe meets the exhaust port? I was going to have it welded in the middle or sillicon it once I dialed it in? Any advise out there would be appriciated?
