2 Stroke vs. 4 stroke.... Pros cons... and why too strokes are better :)

The regs apply only to NEW models sold. Yes, you will probably still be able to make mods, remove restrictive devices etc. The point I was making was that the two stroke engines you can get now will probably not be available in a NEW atv in the coming years. Looks like most of the mfg's except Yamaha have already dropped their two stroke models. If the Commiefornia Air Resource board had it's way, their would be no two strokes in California period. Only due to public outcry did they slack off. Now we have the ridiculous Red sticker program.

Well said alcoff, The old antiques will be grandfathered.... They can't expect new laws to be retroactive to the older machines...
Another reason to keep my antiques... until they make a better mousetrap.

ok..i gotta jump back in on this one I have been in the automotive business for 28 yrs now...so this is the perspective im comin from! If you stick a smog machine probe in that vintage hot rod...youll find that it aint runnin all that dirty at all! If you stick that probe up the tail pipe of ANY 2 stroke engine...o man...it will peg the neddles of the smog machine. THAT's why 2 strokes are goin away...they polute BIG TIME. Some of you guys here are lucky enuf to live where smog is not an issue. I live in SoCal...and in the summer...on a smoggy day...i cant see the moutians that are less than a mile away as the crow flies cause of the smog!!! I love my quads...i love bein out ridin...and i hate the people that r tryin to take away those privlidges from all of us that frequent these forums!!! Screw the tree huggers!!! But the bottom line is 2 fold...2 strokes polute twice as much as a four stroke...and...that rush of power you get when it comes on the pipe is exactly the opsite of what your thinkn...it aint power comin on...its the LACK of power goin away!!!!!!!!!! I learned this years ago tuning what r now vintage hot rods. The rule is...if you can feel the power kick in...what your feelin is a flat spot in the power band disapering. Make sense??? Jus think...if you set up a four stroke (meanin had enuf money) to have the power a banshee has (when its on the pipe) all the time...what would u rather ride? Ask any drag racer!!! Seen any 2 stroke funny cars lately??? hehehe Have fun!!!!
P.S. Sorry if i poped anyones bubble here

rivermobster,i can'T really figure out what you're saying,did you ever tried a sled? or a snowmobile or a ski-doo???
when i'm running on my triple 2 stroke and the speed is at 100 mph at 1/2 throttle and you snpa it to at 8700 rpm to get asthonising 150 hp +
there is no lack of power there for sure beleive me......

scramblered...i hate to tell ya this...but you jus proved my point!!! you HAVE to have a 2 stroke on the pipe...or...half throttle as your sayin...to realize any real power!!! how much power do ya get out of that thing at jus off idle bro? hmmmmm?? anyone remember that 500 and 700cc kawasaki triples? 2 stroke street bikes. killer rush to ride...i know...i had one. but that rush comes from the total lack of power at the bottom end...goin away as you got it on the pipe. high tech 4 stroke engines make power like that from idle to over 10k+ rpm. dont belive me? look at tach on say a honda CBR100XX...and see what the redline is! or...if ya really wanna see what a ultra high tech 4 stroke can do...take a look at the BMW M5...off idle torque that will glue ya in the seat (coming from 400+ hp) and keep ya there to almost 9k...with exhaust so clean you can breath it...and over 28mpg all day long. cutting edge stuff for sure *everyone* but the motorcycle/snowmobile industry gave up on 2 strokes ages ago. But like i said...this is HIGH dollar stuff im talkni bout here. If they put that kinda technology into a quad...how many people could afford one? R&D costs money...sales makes money. Its life...and you and i are payin for it!!!

Whatever, Bottom line is that the fastest quads at the hill are two strokes. Four strokes may have more torque off-Idle, but who cares, who hangs at off idle speed anyways. I have seen some really fast 4-strokes quads, but they had large street bike motors wedged in them. Also, as far as pollution goes, quads play a minor part. They arent ran in enough quantities to compare with cars. what?, on average many people will run their 2-stroke for a couple hours every few weeks. I know I only go out to Glamis 4 times a year, and other than that they sit in the garage for the most part.

you should get out and ride more often slacker! im ridin at *least* twice a month...sometimes more! not everyone has sand dunes (like you and i do) close to home. i can get on my Z...and ride from dove springs...to 7k feet up into the sequoia national forest...and have plenty of gas left over when i get back! if bein the fastest to the top of a sand dune is your thing...good for you! But the point of this thread was...2 stroke...or 4 stroke. So here is a real world question...what will a stock raptor do against a stock shee on a sand dune hill climb? Anybody...been there...done that??

stock beach...ive seen you pics over there Modified stuff is only as good as the builder...YOU apperently have a damm good builder!!! Did you build all those toys yourself? Nice work...very nice BTW...has anyone read this lately? https://atvconnection.com/atvconnect...FSW-14mins.cfm
