Default Shift cable--Eiger

Has anyone else experienced the problem of stripping the shift cable on the Eiger ? I purchased an Eiger in 02' and the first weekend out I stripped the cable end while shifting from reverse to forward. The dealer told me the end is plastic and it is a design fault from Suzuki. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced the problem, and whether Suzuki has changed the end to steel yet ? I purchased my second one and a condition was the dealer stocks a cable for me....
