Default spark arrestor

I have a 2006 Honda Rancher ES 2x4. I noticed it is running too rich. What would be the best thing to remedy that? Also, could I take out the spark arrestor bolt on the bottom of the exhaust? Will that make much of a difference? Could that cause it to run too lean? Any suggestions would be good.
