Default regulators/ rectifiers ?

howdy all just wondering how to test rectifiers and regulators and what sort of specs they should have and also the two units on my quad look pretty similaro how do tell which i uppoed to do what? one is a small rectangular box with cooling fins on it and is bolted to the frame , the other is about the same size but is just held on with a tie and does not have cooling fins, i know that neither of them are the starter relay thats the other side, so any info would be helpful cheers in advance guys

Default regulators/ rectifiers ?

i have figured out that the plain rectangular box would be the cdi as far as i know , the one that has the cooling fins i think is the regulator /rectifier its currently bolted to the frame beside the ign coil, now ive figured all that ou lol how do i test it ? i checked the voltage across the batt terminals while it was running and i had the battery unplugged and got a bit over 6 v , also i have read on here that charging the battery with the lead still on is bad for it so yeah ... ummm oops lol ive only had to charge it like every second day cos i run it at night a lot and it drains the batt prety quick , o well anyhow i have checked the stator it seems pretty good i have rewired the lights to run off it for now but of course that stops charging properly cos its going to the lights so any suggestions ? i have made a few topics here and dont seem to be getting a lot of info , anything would be useful
