Default Sight Glass on crankcase

Hey everyone, I am new here and have a question I just cant seem to figure out. The wife was out on her 05 Polaris Phoenix and noticed a "strange noise". Come to find out the sight glass for the crankcase oil had fallen out (along with all the oil).
So I go to the Polaris dealer and he tells me that part is not an individual piece and I have to order a complete crankcase cover (approx. 400 for the cover and gaskets)
Does anyone out there have any ideas on this, I have debated welding the small slit shut, but then I cannot figure out how to keep up with the crankcase oil.

You need to look at a parts finder to verify this. I am not familiar enough with the 05 Polaris Phoenix. I can see the right and left engine cases for your model but not sure what to look for. The same part for my Kawasaki dirt bike site glass is less than 9.00 dollars.

Try this
