Default 2005 polaris ranger tranny question.

OK, so I just inherited a 2005 polaris ranger and it runs good enginewise, but when stepping on the brake at idle and trying to shift from gear to gear is kinda rough feeling and not fluid. If you turn off the engine of course it shifts fluidly. Anyone know how to best troubleshoot this problem? Thanks.

What RPM is it idleing at? Might be too high. Had this problem on a sport bike I have.

I can set the choke to get in a good rpm range for shifting, its just rough feeling when I do so. I:m womdering if changing the tranny fluid would make it smoother.
