Polaris Sportsman 500 compression release
I`m new here ,so hoping to get some info from people smarter that me.
I have a 99 500 Sportsman and it acts like the compression release is not working. It has new battery,new starter,and is charged.It runs fine once it is started,no pinging like excessive advance.
Can someone give me details of what I need,and how to change it?

Have you checked the valve clearance? .006 intake and exhaust,plus also check the exhaust cam lobe for excessive wear. 1996 to 2000 were the bad years on soft cam lobes. Not to many problems on the automatic compression release unless it's been tampered with and the spring is not engaging the detent lever properly. OPT
