Default Pre filter for trail riding?

Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI stock.
I use primarily for plowing snow in winter and sometimes as a workhorse around the property. Have never had it trail riding and plan to go for a limited time (8 to 10 hours) next month. I expect dusty conditions and someone told me I should put a pre filter on it if I ever go trail riding.
Is this necessary for this one time event?

thank you for any feedback you can provide!

I've never used an aftermarket prefilter on any of my atv's and all I do is trail ride.
your sp 500 came from the factory ready to ride on the trails- no prefilter needed.
maybe post in the polaris forum- maybe opt has a different opinion or advice being a retired popo tech...

You should have the white gauze mesh prefilter over your filter that can be cleaned. If you don't have it, I'd get one or you can go to a Moose or Uni foam filter for extreme dusty conditions.

Default Thanks for the response!

Thank you both for the response. I take good care of my equipment and am always looking to do the "right" thing.

You should have a slip over pre filter stock. Like mentioned. Mine looks like this unless the previous owner added it.

Like was stated it's a stock part and should be there already. Believe me you'll be glad you had it when the trails get dusty. It's a lot cheaper to wash the pre-filter than to replace a dirty filter.

My 04 sp 700 came with one factory except blue and is very easily blown out/off with air compressor
