Soaked Carb Now it seems like its dissolving
So I ripped apart a Timberwolf and found that the carb was all nasty. I stripped the carb down and soaked it in the Gunk carb dip (in the paint can) for about 8 hours. After pulling it out, it still looked a little dirty so I started wiping it down.
However, when the carb is wet (wd40, soapy water, gas) it seems like the aluminum keeps wiping away. Its almost chalky.
I thought maybe it was just some crappy aluminum that broke down when it was soaking so I boiled it in lemon juice about 15 minutes. It came out cleaner but found that if I wipe it with a clothe or my hands, I continue getting a aluminum color off the carb.
So I guess my question is what happens now. Will the gas continue to dissolve the carb? Is there a sealant I can put on the carb to stop it?

I've heard of this happening a lot lately. My advice, learned from a pro carb cleaner, don't use those dip chemicals, too strong. Especially for 8 hours. Better to just use a spray carb cleaner to break up the grease and gunk then scrub with a stiff tooth brush to get the tougher stuff off. If there is still other stuff, #12 bead at 60 psi can clean them up pretty safely. As long as you tape off protect the float valve seat. You could also use soda. Main thing is getting the inside clean as possible with cleaner/brush and blowing out the jets really well with cleaner/air.
I'm not sure what can be done to stop the corrosion of the aluminum (the sounds of it).

Don,t get to concerned with making the carb body pretty its the jets that you really want to make sure are cleared and the best method is the "Wire". Disassembly and Cleaning of a Mikuni Round slide Carburetor
I,m not relying on something to soak its way through over time, just punch through and get it done quick.
