Set the meter on ohms resiatance. You can at least rule the stator out as causing the problem. Just check resistance between each stator yellow leads. Should at least show a small amount of resistance between each yellow with no individual wire shorting to ground. If that checks out replace the regulator.If you could actually find a regulator made in Japan for your Honda you'd be lucky unless you want to pay oem replacement prices and even then they're still probably made else where.
