Seized while cranking - 300cc kawasaki bayou
#1
Hey guys, new to forum;
Chasing some mechanical advice, I recently bought a Kawasaki bayou 300cc as a non running quad that turned over with spark. After confirming it had spark i hooked up a jumper pack and filled her with fuel, after a bit of cranking and a bit of start you bastard (starting fluid) she fired up but was clattering/knocking but it did not sound like a rod knock. She then died and would not turn over. I then removed the pull start housing and turned the motor backward using a screwdriver in the engagement teeth of the pull start, as i turned it over it felt a lot like when the chain of a dirt bike is adjust far to tight (kinda jumpy and draggy). She then turned over fine (just the same as before) i then cranked it over for about a minute (with the spark plug out) without issue. Thinking the issue had resolved itself i tried to start it again and just as it fired up (ran for maybe 3-5 seconds) it "seized" again this time it didn't seem to matter how much i tried to work it back and forth it wouldn't free up (moves maybe the tiniest bit). I did think it may be a stuck valve but they seem to be moving fine and considering its stuck in both directions (trying to turn both ways) i don't think it could be. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing, the rattling/clanking makes me wonder if a piece of one of the gears or cam chain is jammed. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
