Vortec 5.3 vs. Vortec 5.7
Sorry to dig up an old post. I was bored and reading back through this forum when I found this thread.
I own and operate a truck accessory store. Needless to say I get to drive A LOT of trucks. We do work for seven car dealers in the area too. In our spare time we get the opportunity to run different trucks side by side to see who's who in today's market.
The 5.7 doesn't stand a chance against the 5.3. Especially since the 5.7 is a standard. This will impare him quite a bit actually. The 5.7 will not start gaining on your mid track either like mentioned. Just put your truck in the Tow Haul mode and hammer down. You will win, and he will quickly realize it's not in his best interest to shoot his mouth off about stuff he doesn't have a clue about.
The mods he has won't make enough difference to matter.

Yeah the 6.0 are not very quick off the line they are mostly for towing, unless your talking the SS 6.0, then their is no chance is hell. I would say too that the 5.3 will outrun the 5.7, 2wd or not. Thats the whole point they came out with them, their stronger and faster. I had a 99 Z71 with a 5.3, them motors are quick. And pull hard off the line.
