I would say to narrow it down to what you like, look around on here to see if anyone as ever posted opinions about them (this particular towing forum isn't that old, but you can search the rest of the site as well.)
I would say go for the light models if there is a version. You're in California, though I'm not sure exactly where Apple Valley is. But most likely you're gonna have to pull some grades if you go anywhere so the 6.0 is gonna be a little lackluster in the performance department when pulling grades.
Keeping with the mid 20' range of trailers you're going to be getting up close to 10,000lb GVWR on the trailer. If you have only a Class C license, you can only pull a trailer rated at 10,000lb GVWR. 10,001 and above is a Class A (Commercial or Non-Commercial). Try to not exceed 80% of any of your vehicle capacities. Capacities to watch: GVWR, GCWR, GAWR on both the truck and trailer (though GCWR won't apply to the trailer.)
Is that murky enough?
I'm sure the rest of the FBK gang will be along shortly to berate your motor, just take us for the diesel-swilling guys we are (or want to be in my case.)
