Hi Everyone,
Can Cavalier 98 Automatic Transmission Tow 2500 lbs Trailer ?
The automatic Cavalier will be used to tow the trailer with bikes and quads on it, I think the trailer and the bikes will weigh 2500 lbs.
Will something go wrong with the automatic transmission ? How about the engine ?
Has anyone done this before.
Thanks in advance.

You'll have to look in your manual to find out.
2500lbs is going to be to much. I would think the max tow is about 1k. They're uni-body cars so they're not made for towing.
The only hitch I found was a class 1 and they're rated at 2,000lbs max weight & max tounge weight is 200lbs.

I would hazard a guess that your car isn't rated for towing at all. I have a Daewoo Nubira and it's a zero tow. Specifically says not to tow anything with it. I think the new newer Caveliers actually share the tranny (a GM Powertrain sourced unit) with my car.

cavalier has 1000 pound rating for auto tranny, personally my issue would not be with the tranny or the engine, your literally bolting the hitch into thin thin sheet metal, i would be more afraid of ripping the hitch off the car, then hurting the engine or tranny

It's called trailer brakes. Heck, even the '91 GMC Sonoma I've got requires brakes over 1,000lbs towing.
