Toy Hauler question
#1
Hi, thank you for your help in this one. I am trying to do some research on getting a toy hauler for my upcoming racing season. I drive a 1998 Ram 2500 24 Valve Diesel manual transmission. Should be able to pull up to about 12000 GVWR, well legally at least. And I honestly dont want to go too high on the weight to try to save a bit of money on the cost of gas these days. I am going to be loaded up with two bikes and all equipment that goes with that (something in the neighborhood of 1500 lbs) plus all the gear for living in a camper for the season of course so probably about 1800 lbs total for a load. I will be racing with one other person so I would like at least two beds, and from what I have seen queen is a typical bed size, not a bad thing I guess. I have looked at this :http://www.tomsrv.com/fcb_deluxe_front_bed.htm

I looked at that one brefly but for two people being on the road for 3 weeks at a time not the best idea. Specially when one of those people is a female. I was looking at the one with the one with a queen bed in front and the loft bed in back as the smallest I would go for.
As for the link, I have no idea why it wont work. If you copy and past it it works all right.

I might suggest you look at a used Patio Hauler 5th wheel, either a 29.5 or 32. They are seperate garage units, and the garage section has gaps in the floor slats so the garage can be hosed out.
I have a 29.5, and it has a queen over the hitch, seperate shower in the bathroom, and a dining booth that drops down into a bed. The cabinet above the table can also fold flat into a (limited weight) kid bed.
In the 32', you get a sofa/sleeper in addition to the sleeper/booth.
Personally, I prefer 5th wheels for their more stable feel on the road, and the ability to turn sharply...

Check my pics. The storage area is 18' long and the beds fold down even with 2 quads in the trailer. Total price with A/C & 20' awning around $13K

The reason the link won't work is that the link is https: (secure http) and not http: (standard http).

You know it's back there. I can't really complain about the pulling. A v-nose may be easier but most I have seen are not made very well. Perhaps pulling it with a 6 1/2 foot tall truck helps break the wind up a bit.
