Default Haggling on toy hauler prices?

Ok, I'm new to the toy hauler market, but is it customary to haggle on prices as you would a new car? I know that you can easily find the dealer prices, incentives and holdbacks to use in negotiating with a car dealer. But is the same info available on a toy hauler?

With ATV's, from the purchases I've made to knowing what friends did when they bought, there doesn't seem to be much wiggle room in the price unless it's a year end clearance. It seems the mark ups in the ATV world are the "dealer prep" "shipping" "assembly". Those marks ups, er "charges", are always negotiable and have always not been included in any deal that I've had or have heard of from friends. I've heard that the mark up from dealer cost to MSRP is only about 3-5% (but then they add on all those other charges.) I've also gotten free gear when I've bought stuff too.

But with a toy hauler is the posted price what you pay? Or as they say, is everything negotiable? So far I've just gone out looking and at the two places I've gone to (both were not traditional RV lots) it seems like there was no hidden set up fees or transportation costs. So, what's the deal?

I don't think anyone pays full retail or full dealer price... But I also don't know where you can find out what invoice/dealer cost is on toyhaulers.

What unit are you looking at? Try searching RV trader for it and see what other dealers are charging for similarly equipped units.

Also, these things depreciate very fast, especially in the first couple of years. If you are not positive what length and floorplan you want, you might want to consider starting a used one.

I pretty much know my needs and weight restrictions. I would be looking at a 16' to 18' fun runner, weekend warrior ultralite, attitude 19' or a 16' 18' baja dunes. Since it's a pretty much entry level toy hauler I think that when I am ready to buy there may be a good selection of used ones that have been traded in for upgrades.

The sense that I have gotten from Carson Trailer (one of their locations, not an RV lot) and from actual RV dealers at off road expos, is that they don't have the "let's make a deal" attitude of the usual car salesman. I have not yet gone into a bondafide dealership, so maybe that will be a different experience.

Right now I am taking my time to look, I probably won't be buying until sometime in March. Until then it's window shopping and checking the RV trader as well.

The price we paid for our toyhauler was discounted $10,000 from the full retail price, which is about 20% off. It had lots of upscale options though, such as automatic climate control, and leather upholstery, so there may have been more mark up than on a base model. I would certainly shop around, and would not expect to pay retail. Good luck.

Don't know if this will help you, but:
I just bought a "new/used" 2004 Tahoe

Asking price was $26,995.00
I ended up paying $23,000.00 tax license "prep" plus a new tow package (sway & leveling bars)
So there is room for "Haggling"

In most cases in my search there has been a lot of room for dealing.

Also check out

www.nada.com

that website has just about everything

Hope this helps you
