trailering ?
#1
I am looking for a trailer to carry 2-3 atvs. I am looking at a 6'4"x12' or 6'4"x14'. I know I could drive 2 straight on with the 14' trailer. The 14' is a little longer then I wanted to go. The atv is 6'3" from front of wheel to back of wheel.
My question is how are some of you loading them on sideways. Are you driving them over the rails? Are you driving them on straight and then twisting/muscling the rear end around? I know there are different styles of trailers. The one that fits my budget has side rails, rear gate and no side gate. I was also considering modify one side of the trailer by bolting the rails on versus having them welded. I really don’t want to do this to a new trailer ($1400) but if that’s what I have to do Ill live with it. I am hoping someone out there can tell me they load with a ramp over the rails. I’m just afraid on it bottoming out. As well as the difficulty on getting it out.
Your comments are greatly appreciated.

On a 12' trailer load them from the side, add ramps to the top of the rails that way you have room under the quads for ramps, spare tire, gas cans etc. I've done this in the past and it woked fine, you can unbolt the quad ramps and use the trailer for other things easily....

I had afreind build my trailer. It is a 6x10 flat bed. It has no sides so I can load any way I want. You cant cut the sides off of the lite cheap trailers on the market because they use them as part of the frame. Removing them would severly weaken the trailer. Mine was made heavy enough that it dont need sides. The best bet if you buy a liter trailer would be to put ramps across the rails if you want to load them from the sides. Pluss then like mentioned above you gain all that storage under the machines. Just make sure the trailer has strong enough rails to suport the machines.
