Default OCOTILLO OR BUST...EMERGENCY, HELP! 911 411

Okay, if this doesn't totally suck....we are on our way to Ocotillo and get to Loma Linda and our truck, 2000 Ford Excursion V10 eats ....while towing our 2006 Weekend Warrior filled with a 06 700R, 05 YFZ450, TWO 05 RAPTORS, and a little 80....Okay so you're thinking right o dumbass, pronounced doo-mas, why all the new stuff and you are going to tow it with an Excursion....well they told us it would and secondly we were surfers before we were dirt people and thirdly, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to buy quads initially....well to make a long story longer...

We obviously need to buy a new truck, and yesterday! We looked at the 06 F350 but they want 50K roughly for it and after spending all our cash on the toys, we are broke and have to finance....like I said, I never said we were intelligent.

Anyway....which vehicle is up to the task of hauling the 2006 weekend warrior filled with 5-6 quads, 150 gallons of freshwater, grey, black, etc. etc., six people, 2 dogs and gear.....extra tires, etc. etc.

Help, we would like to try and salvage the weekend, maybe? Even if we can't, we need to purchase a truck....

Will the 250 do it....these machines are @#$%ing expensive....

Thanks.....................so much........for your input.

Most of the 3/4 tons will tow your load, although if your toy hauler is one of the bigger ones you could be getting near the limit of the 2500's. Obviously, for that kind of towing (or any towing) a diesel is better.

You can do much better on price. While the MSRP on a tricked out 1-ton will run close to 50K, they can be had for less, much less. GM is currently doing their red tag promo and Dodge is doing some kind of extended service/fuel/warrantee thing - both are worth checking out. This is also the last year for the current GM body style so deals can be had. I just saw an '06 loaded 3500 Chevy in the paper yesterday - diesel, crew cab and most options - going for just under 39K.

As practicle advice - You are better off just calling the weekend toasted rather than rush into spending 40K + on a truck that you have GOT to have today.

We pretty much are calling it that, toasted is good. Anyway, it's not a total loss but I'm sure you can understand that I've ridden my 700R only once and I'm soooo jonesin...she purrs.....The first time I rode, it was an instant connection, nothing awkward about it...I think I'll just do the good wife thing and clean the house for the holidays....We are looking at the Dodge 3500 and I really think we are going to sever our relationship with Ford.....I'm not in a huge hurry to buy this weekend...but we need to get into something soon.

What's your thought on the Dodge Mega Cab 3500? I saw a Dodge with a Hemi while we were having our Thanksgiving dinner complete with all the fixins...in the Loma Linda Wal-Mart parking lot and it was beee u tiful....stunning on the outside but we are really only worried mostly about engine capacity.....all these daughters, dogs, bikes and huge *** trailer to pull.....should we have gotten a smaller trailer?

Thanks a million for writing back......RECON RANGER......if you read this................it's why we didn't show up, ha ha.

That Hemi name may sound good but if you look at the stats, 345HP and 375 torque its obviously not what you are looking for. Compare that to the dodge cummins diesel at 328HP and 610 torque, now this would be ideal. The mega cab looks great, I always felt their quad cab was too small. The cummins engine is a great motor, I am just not convinced about there transmission.

Everyone will have there opinion based on brands, you need to drive each one and see what fits you best. I would strongly only consider looking at only the diesel. Some of the larger gas motor are more then capable of towing your load, but the diesel will be more at home. The extra cost may seem allot up front but pick up the classified ads and see how much more the used diesel trucks are selling for compared to the gas trucks.

You didn't say what size you trailer was. A lot of people including dealer's salesman will tell you a 3/4 ton (2500) with a diesel can tow anything out there, this is false. With a good size trailer full of water, gas, quads, food, and all your other gear can easily max out a majority of trucks and make them unsafe. Towing safely is not all about having enough power.

What gets your vote? The 06 Dodge turbo diesel cummins 3500 or the 06 F350 PowerStroke....we have been Ford people forever, the 00 Excursion that just ate &^%$ and we have a 66 GT Convertiible show car........we caused the Excursion to fail because of our stupidity in the towing game.........it's not rated to tow all this:

4 daughters
2 BIG dogs
2-2005 660 Raptors
1-2005 YFZ 450
1-2006 700R
1-2005 80
1-Electric dealie for the 4 year old
Gear
1250 pounds fresh water
60 gallons of gas, trailer only
20-generator/40 pump station

So you can see.........we are in world of hurt........non-riding.........unless we get something to pull this crazy trip.

They say you live and learn............uh yeah?!

Thanks everyone....................

Hey RECON RANGER.............Hope you had a great weekend..........

If I had been home, we could have done a ride in the hills. As you pass Loma Linda, most of the hills to the south belong to a friend of mine. It's my own private off-road park, and it's all private property so the Sheriff can't bother me!

I'm a Chevy guy, but in our group was a 06 Warrior FS3000 (same as your's I think?) towed by a Ford 2500 (not sure what engine), and no problems. Those toy hauler trailers can get REAL HEAVY! 150 gallons of water, bikes, etc., etc., and you've got to have a lot of truck to haul it.

Good luck!

Check out the tow guide on the Warrior web site, it might help you pick an appropriate truck. You don't want to be right at your trucks tow limit though. My rule is only tow 3/4 of your trucks tow limit.
