Wiring a 96 Grand Cherokee
#1
I just put a trailer hitch on my '96 Grand Cherokee and the local shop wants almost 200 bucks to wire up a flat 4 hookup. Is it that hard to do yourself? I found the proper wire colors to hook into online, but where do find them?

While I do feel the quote you got from your local shop is a little steep, you will find that wiring your vehicle will cost more than an average one. Unfortunately you cannot put a standard four way plug on your rig. If you could the cost to the parts would be less then $10. We retail ours installed for $29 at our shop. Your Cherokee takes a self powered light convertor that has to be run to the battery of the vehicle to protect the computer. I would probably charge a customer between $125 and $150. I believe the convertor you need will run you not much under $100 just to purchase the parts.
I hope that helps explain the quote you got.
As for finding the wires you need. Just pull the tail lights and use a test light to find the appropriate wires to feed your plug. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to do this. If it did, I wouldn't be doing it for a living.
