ford f-350 dump, 460ci

there is a 1996 ford f-350 dump truck for sale in the newspaper for 9000 dollars. is the 460 v-8 is it good motor to have, powerful. the truck comes with a 9 foot plow. the truck has 90.000 miles on it. it this a good work truck, how does the price sound, this would be my first vehicle and really want to have truck to plow with . please write back if you have any info.

The 460 is a good motor. Just thirsty, and when towing can get REALLY thirsty. Coworker can get about 8MPG in a 250 SuperCab Short Bed 4x4. It will depend on your gears and what you're doing. F-450 at work can get down to about 4 MPG when loaded and towing. One thing that the 460s do is shear off the exhaust manifold bolts. If it starts to sound like you have an exhaust leak, that's the problem.
If it has an auto tranny, they usually go about 120K or so and die (coworkers died with 20K, YMMV). The f-450 we run at the office is on tranny number 3, at about 130K miles. Both trannies went with about 60K on them. There are companies out there that can work on the tranny and beef it up.
