Default will quad fit in shortbed truck?

I used to drive a '91 Sonoma and my Warrior fit well. It was a long bed though. The tail gate would ALMOST close when it had a toolbox in there. I didn't use it, plus it was a POS that was breaking so out it came. The wheel wells were JUST wide enough to fit my Warrior. That doesn't mean that I didn't put a dent in one of the wells... Had a friend with a Warrior in a newer S-10 that could close the gate as well. And I don't remember him riding over the fenders, or smaking them. This was the old TBI 4.3 with a 3.23 rear (or something like that.) Mileage was in the mid teens.

With the F-150 with the 4.6 V-8 I'm pushing high 13s to 15 in town (it can vary tank-to-tank depending on where I'm going, and how I watch my driving style) to over 19 on the highway. 75MPH highway run got me 18 and change including about 20 miles in town. That included going over a steep long pass (I5's "Grapevine") both ways. A purely flat highway and keeping a reasonable speed, I wouldn't be suprised to push 20MPG. That's with the 3.55 gears which are good mileage gears but can make for poor pullers. However, at your loads, that's nothing.

I think I finally found the truck i've been searching for. It's a 93 gmc extended cab longbed, 4.3 auto, 2 wheel drive. 90,000 miles, they're asking 4,300, and it looks to be in mint condition. I'm test driving it after work tomorrow and if I don't find anything wrong on the test drive hopefully i'll be bringing it home.

Sounds good. Not sure if they were still using the 700R4 (I think that's the name) tranny, they last about 120K. Our's went out at 120K and then the OD clutches went out around 180K (60K on that tranny) and the TC had stopped locking at some time before that.

I know someone that does transmissions for pretty cheap, so I guess i'll take the chance. One of my buddies had an s10 with the same engine/tranny, and it had 241,000 miles on the original engine and trans, so I guess all of them didn't have trouble with the tranny crapping out at 120k.
