Best way to load ATV's om trailer (sideways)
#1
I have a trailer 6.4 inches wide and 14 feet long (77"x14") with drop down tailgate.
On occasion I need to haul 3 atv's 1 Honda rancher & 2 Foremans. Each ATV is 4 ft wide. So i need to load them from the sides or haul them sideways.
Here is a pic of a trailer like mine except I have a mesh gate.
utilty trailer
Whats the best way to load them and unload them sideways on the trailer.
I was thinking of cocking them sideways as best as up the ramp. Then I can then use a hand winch to get them sideays all the way up the trailer. Do you think this would work?
If I use my ramps and drive over the sides it scratches the bottom of the frames. Which I am trying to avoid also.
thanks

I had the same deal here at one time with 3 Sportmans on a 12' like yours, we made ramps out of angle and mesh and bolted them on top of the side rails. Drive on, drive off and storage under the quads.

we just load from the back, stop and muscle ours around on the trailer- one person on the front of the quad, one handling the back. sometimes we totally have to pick up the quad entirely and rotate it. but i suppose this is not as easy with utility bikes as it is with sport bikes...
some type of ramp system is you best bet with your existing trailer. get the part that touches the side of the trailer coated with rubber. this can be done at an industrial/fab shop. they just cut you some rubber and get the bad @ss glue out and its on there. after the rubber is on there it wont slide around or scratch things. yeah, i know what it sounds like...since i said 'rubber'.

When I owned a similar trailer, we just muscled them arouned by picking up the back end and dragging them around. After the trailer and atv's were stolen, I bought a trailer without sides. Then I went to my local welder and he made removable sides. Two bolts on each side and lift the rail off. Set the ramps on the side and drive the Atv's up. Set the rail back in the slot, put bolts in and go.

I have a friend that made the mistake of purchasing one of those trailers as well. He solves the problem by using ramps to drive up the side and into the bed. To avoid the drop into the trailer he has standard car ramps, like the ones you use to drive your car on in the garage, placed on the trailer where the rear wheels (if you drive forward onto the trailer) rest on the ramps. He then moves the ramp and drives the next one on to the car ramps that he has awaiting. The car ramps also help you exit the trailer over the side and onto the loading ramp with ease.

make an attachment to go on your floor jack, drive the atv on the trailer jack up the wheeler in the middle, and spin it around. I'm in the process of making one to spin them inside the toyhauler.

After doing a LOT of research on the different models available, I looked at the Triton aluminum trailers. They have a LOT of sizes and configurations to suit about anything being hauled, and the price was a bargain too.
What I ended up with was a XT14-101-1. The deck is 101 inches wide by 14 foot rectangle, and then another 2 feet extending to the tongue at a taper. That meant I have enough room for four FULL SIZE quads [2 x 2 side by side with 2 more behind that OR four FULL SIZE quads all side by side] I can load them from the back, either side, or the front.
It even had enough room to add a large aluminum waterproof truck box for all the gear and tools. The ramp even stores out of the way and locked up under the rear of the trailer.....without any rattling.
And on top of all that, the trailer itself only weighs 800lbs.
