Default Motorhome and Enclosed Trailer

I'm looking to by an enclosed trailer, 8.5 wide, I've discovered different brands have various tongue lengths, Haulmark = 33", Mirage = 41", this measurment is from front of trailer to center of ball. I know you can order any trailer with a longer tongue, 6",12" 18" longer that stock, but, has anyone heard of motorhomes having trouble with the shorter 33" tongue, (the corner to corner crunch point when turning or backing)?

I've found many nice trailers on the lots, but passed them up because of the shorter 33" tongue. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Hey Larry,

I've got a couple friends with the standard length tongues on them and tow behind their MH. They seem to turn fine and are able to get there trailers where they want to. I'll measure my neighbors and see what his is. You do just have to watch and be careful when backing.

I'll let ya know some measurements

So much about how a trailer backs depends on the distance between the axles on the tow rig, distance from the tow rig rear axle to the hitch and distance from the trailers hitch to it's axle's centerline that it's hard to tell what you need. I would really suggest you take your tow rig with you and try these various trailers out by backing them at the dealers lot. Most any of them should tow forward fine but a tight forward turn at the dealers should be tried.
