Hi, its rtboy im sorry to everyone that I was not on here. 5 months ago i turned 16 yrs old. I had a lot of family issues. So I am looking in the market for a 2-door truck on truck is a charchol ford f-350 powerstroke with a manual 4x4 for 20,000 with 59,000 miles. Oh yeah it is an 05. I seen a chevy silverado 2500 with 43,000 miles on it and its an 05 for 22,000 with a manual 4x4 and its silver. What is better and what is more reliable? My dad says I should get the ford. What is better on gas? And I am wondering for all the truck people, what do you pay for diesel gas? In pa we pay 3.73 THANKS

Though I'm a Ford fan, there were serious problems with the early 6.0 powerstrokes.
Between those two, I'd opt for the chevy. If you want Ford, I'd think about going a little earlier and getting a 7.3, or go find a stick shift Cummins powered dodge...

The 7.3 Fords were a very good engine. I would have one anyday at my ranch even though I'm a bow tie fan.
That being said, the 6.0's had many problems. Like head gaskets, and head gaskets and sticky turbos. These issues can be fixed with studs and new gaskets. The problem is the cab has to come off to do just about any work on them. Can you do this? If not; it's BIG $$$"s to do this. Have your dad Google "problems with Ford 6.0 diesel" and see what comes up
The Chevy of these years has less problems, more power and will get better fuel mileage.
I think diesel was $3.75 today.
They both get great gas mileage.....................neither uses any!!! (Sorry, I just had too.)

Here's an autoweek article.
Auto Week 6.0 article
Here's an article from detroit news about increased quality expenses...
Quality costs at Ford rise $500 million
There are plenty of folks who have had 6.0's without problems, but personally I wouldn't want to own one that wasn't under warranty.

if you can, find a late model 99 7.3 powerstroke with low miles, i did because the new models had a small intake and outlet on the turbo, i have no complaints, my buddy has a 04 and put the dial chip and he gets 24 mpg with his, i get 17 stock, and im putting the dial in mine and should get 22 mpg

If you want a good reliable diesel with a manual check out the early d-max. The d-max is a great engine that has proven itself many time over even with the automatic. Anothter possibility would be a cummins but make sure to get one with a manual cause the dodge autos suck and have not proven themselves reliable. Go with the d-max.
