Enclosed Trailer Tires
#11
My trailer came with bias tires and I got about five years out of them before switching to radials. Never had a problem with them. Did the same as you mentioned. Checked them before every use and changed them before tread depth became suspect. Trailer company wanted full value of radials with 10% value of new bias to change so I used bias until they wore out. Overloading and low pressure will really hurt them.

A lot of trailers are putting on Chinese tires to save cost, they seem to have more blow-outs than normal. You need to:
Check the weight of your loaded trailer to the weight limits on your tires.
Know the speed rating of the tire and follow it (many trailer tires are rated 60 mph)
Carry a spare, and upgrade to a higher rated tire when possible.
JMHO of course.

reno82 -- Great suggestion! I hadn't thought about checking the speed rating on the tires. That is something I will do when I take delivery.
OBTW: Trailer should arrive this coming Tuesday.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions and comments!
