praire 700 or sportsman 700?

You can pull start a prairie, if fact most bikes that have high compression, have to be started that way because the starter won't turn the motor.
I know of a few grizz's that are started that way, and I know of bikes that have been lighten, (battery, starter, brakes and so on) that are started with the pull starter.

The big ole debate.....I love it....Honda has been one of the best machines ever built....I have owned 8 of them.......an eiger.......banshee.....Ya know---- i don't think i have ever been on a quad i didn't like.......Be happy with what you have......if there was no competition, you all would bitch cause because there wasn't any....having said all that, i'm having a blast on my 400 Sportsman

in theiry a v twin should be easier to pull over than a single the same size because you only have half half the compression at one time. My vinson is harder to pull than a p650 but i can still do it with no problem. Anyway its nice to know its there.

The Suzuki DR 350 I use to own had a decomprechion leaver I had to engauage before I kicked it over. That maid it a little easer to start. Don't know why they couldn't do something like that on the big twins.

here we go again . a week ago over at atv time forum i about started a war with this on the polaris forum but this is the cold hard facts of my own test rides.. i was test riding the sp700 & sp700efi with full intent to take one home . after i had spent close to 2 hours riding the 2 polaris bikes and was convinsed they were the best .the dealer who also sold kawi asked if i had rode the p700 . i said no but jumped at the chance to trash another of his bikes hehehe . as i fired up the p700 he mounted the sp700efi we went back to the test trail again . this trail has a good mix of hills mud straits humps & bumps . the end result was the p700 smoked the sp700efi hands down . convinsed that it had to be rider fault we switched bikes and he proceeded to spanke me . again the p700 smoked the the sp700efi & sp700 . needless to say i did not take home a polaris . no i did not get the kawi either . now on another hand if you want the hardest best pulling atv for hooking to the sled the bombardier quest 650 will smoke them all no contest . this has been proven over and over . i work atv sled pulls for the local bombardier dealer and in two years nothing has beat the quest 650 . and on the trails you wont out do my outlander 400 butt on long staight stretch the p700 & sp700 will pull away butt not to far . go to the mud and the 400 outlander will amaze you. so this is the bike that ended up in my garage .

bill glad to hear form another shome state nut. i test drove this at lebanon suzuki - kawasaki, inc. 1-888-898-3014 ask for ken beavers they are asking 8199.00 with a certificate from polaris that gives you 2000.00 back in three years for a final $6199.00 . i would rather have the 2 grand off up front . there full price is high butt when you factor in the cash back in three years the final price is hard to beat. the efi is a hellava bike smoothest exceleration i have seen. but what realy turned me off polaris is the whole grease zerk & other warenty stuff . i am afraid the new polaris is not going to hold up like my old 300 4x4 explorer 1996 that thing is a tank it has had a few tune ups and 1 new chain & a hole bunch of hard hard thrashing pulling mudding flipping over & over & over . it was my first 4 wheeler . i am an old 3wheeler man wore out a few 200x & 350x hondas in my years .

Wildcard, just how reliable are those Bombardiers? I have a friend with a DS thats held up rather well considering all the abuse he puts it through!!!! Ive had the chance to ride an outlander, and you are right, they are very well made machines, just not the quad for me! I don't really think there is ANY quad out there that satisfies all my needs, though my grizz, in my opinion, comes to the closest to doing so!!!!

tellicogriz660-i agree there is no perfect quad !! from my experiance with the bombardier bikes i have to say they are strong bikes . if you want a hard core puller there is nothing that can touch the quest650 its speed is impresive for a straight axel the ride is very good . its a work horse. for general farm and ranch duties & weekend playing & hunting the traxter 500 is very solid. for something witha lot of sport and still usefull as utility the outlander is a fun quad plenty of speed to keep up with the big bores and a ride that is smooth (equal to a polaris sportsman smooth) . the biggest draw back i can find t the outlander is the darned plastic racks ( hard to fasten bags & gear to ) . i have owned handas, yamahas, kawasaki, polaris, and over all most have been very reliable bikes but the bombardier is as reiable as any handa i have ever owned. i have a loner 400 4x4 outlander right now and have put about 500 miles onthis bike with no problems . this is a demo bike that has 3000+miles on it it has been used for pulling & mud run events by the dealer since it came out of the crate ( a very hard life ) the only work it has had is a new voltage reg /relocated to the battery box from the front and a new speedo & grease added to the rear torsion bars all of which are factory service orders the bike is an 03 the first year of prodution so a few buggs can be expected. hooked up bike to bike with your grizz it will amaze you how it will pull . the visco lock diff. is impressive how it handels the tork to the wheels and alows a smaller lighter bike to pull with a much more powerful machine . this is not bs and i am not a bombardier salesman just a impressed rider
