Oh how I wish I was in Montana right now. Sure Chaos, just like Bill said, if you're talking drag racing, I'm sure you would win. But I don't drag race my Suburban, however I do drag race my Camaro. That said, I also wouldn't bring my Camaro to a mud bog or a truck pull.

BUT, if you are so willing and daring to hook to any Sportsman, whether it be a 500, 600, or 700, with a decent driver, I guarantee you'll get dragged. It's the laws of physics. Sportsmans have heavier duty frames and overall weigh more. That and good tires and all 4 wheels spinning, and the low end grunt of Polaris engines, they can't be beaten in that sense. I can drag my buddy's Grizzly 660 like he's a mini quad, but he is slightly faster in an all-out drag race, yet we both top out at the same speed, 64-65 mph.

So, here's your results. Drag racing, you'll win. Mud bog, I'll win. Pull contest, I'll win. Heck, 2 out of 3 ain't bad!!

From all the Hype about how fast, mean, mindblowing, and ungodly the Prairie is for speed, I think I am going to sell every bike I got and get one to race againts the Banshee's and Zillas at Pikes Peak and out in Glamis!!! A 420 long rod banshee on Nitrous has absolutely nothing on a Twin 700 Race....Im sorry...Utility Quad!!!! The polaris will outwork, and outpull a prairie ANYDAY!!!! Also I think other people are getting the idea (Bill 35), I've asked that question so many times its crazy and I will continue to ask the "SAMEEEEE" question over and over "Shotgun", what can the Prairie do that the others can't besides drag?????? I love how all the "mags" that so many people rave about "NEVER" show the Prairie in the DEEP MUD, yet you always, always see the Polaris's!! I wonder why that is!!!! WIth that in mind, I read a post where someone said that they did a big shoot out between the big bores JANUARY 04, where they said everyone should read that post before buying there 4x4 quad, IF YOU READ THAT ARTICLE CORRECTLY, wasnt the Prairie the only one mentioned getting "STUCK"!!! Yeah read that article!!!! ALso I have a question........the most awesome 4x4 vehicle that one can buy from a dealership for off-road use in stock form is the Humvee1, isnt the Humvee 1 Independent all the way around????? Why did the Military chose independent over the "proven" straight axle????? Take for example if you supercharged and fully modified the motor of the H2 humvee and added the same size tires as the H1, that motor still WOULD NOT take it the places the INDEPENDENT SUSPENDED H1 would go!!!!! If people know anything about rock crawling of Hybrid Jeeps and such I'm sure someone will ask the question of why do all the Rock Crawling vehicles always have straight front and rear axles, I will go ahead and answer that question before you ask, 2 things, RELIABILITY and COST to build!!! That still doesnt mean that it would go further!!! They have been made before, but for the people that come out there, normal people like you and I, most can't afford to build that kind of a beast!!! As for the "smile I get after riding" my quads, Im sure my smile would turn upside down the first time I was hung up while the other quads just drove on by...all while saying PIN IT, the SPEED WILL GET YOU THROUGH"!! LOL!!!!!! Wait...Ive said that before!!!

TellicoGrizz660 from all the "hype" about how poor my prairie goes through the rocks and deep mud I have decided to sell it. It is just a shame though because I really enjoy it in the sand and the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and working at my house. I will be purching a Grizzly - now if we just had some rocks to crall over and some deep mud it would be great, because I will now not be able to climb some of the hills and dunes I used to. We have actual big hills where you need the physical speed and mometum of a prairie to go over. Not that the other utilities don't have enough power if there was traction but sometimes in the sand or loose shail (sp) rock if you can't generate enough speed quick enough you just get stuck. I also like to jump and have never felt comfortable on an IRS jumping. The Prairie is a great option for people who live on the West cost and ride in a totally different enviroment. Some people actually have a need for Work utility and still want to go ride and have fun but don't want to have to have two quads. I have owned a Sportsmans and a Scambler, as my best friend used to own a polaris dealership (sold last year). They are great machines, but no matter where I rode the Sportsman it always felt like I was working because of the way it rode and handled. We did however build a scambler that would give mild mod raptors and banshees a shock (pipes, reeds, head), but it had a full mod race ported big bore on nitrous.

But now I am now off to the Yamaha shop to buy a grizzly and start searching for some rocks to crall over. fortunately I have a backhoe so I can dig a hole out back so I can make a mud hole.

I was out doing donuts in the snow in my driveway last weekend and still had the 60" blade on the front (put in 2 wd) . Then put it back in 4 wd and went off bombing through the 2 feet of snow in my yard. I am pretty sure the prarie does donuts and wheelies better than a Grizzly or Sportsman also. It is just plain fun to ride, which surprised me very much, because I used to race 3-wheelers, quads and motorcycles (mx-style), and did not think I would be happy without a fairly modified sport quad. For a big quad it does not feel that heavy when riding, you can still jump up or down dunes without killing yourself.

Unless you have ridden on the other side of the country it is hard to understand the differences in terrain. I am an avid snomobiler, and we see the same thing in that industry. Most sleds until recently were designed to run in a foot of fresh snow on a lake back East. Not a very functional sled for climbing mountains in 3-4 feet of powder in the West. My last sle had 1029 cc triple (225hp on pump gas) with nitrous that took it over 300 hp. with a 159" tack. If I took this sled back East I would be beat buy probably anything with a 440 or above on a lake, because I have no ice picks, track is too long for speed and I am geared down to the point where I can only go about 80 mph - but I can run 70 uphill in the powder.

Have fun and ride what you like.

I too am in the market for a new 4-wheeler and, after reading this thread, I am more confused than ever! My choices have been narrowed down to the P700 and the SP700, so this thread is exactly what I am looking for. I live in NC and my primary use will be for riding trails with rocks, downed trees, creeks, and mud. We don't get much snow here and there isn't much sand. I have been a golfer all my life, so the back is not as strong as it used to be. I rode my bud's P650 and I felt beat around, so I am leaning to the Polaris that seemed easier on my body due to the IRS. On the trails we ride, top speed is 30 - 40 mph except for a few straightaways. The hills we ride were handled OK by the Polaris 500 I have been riding. The 2004.5 SP700's have different tires that come on them, so do you think that will make a difference in the performance that you P700 fans say is lacking in the SP700? Please respond because I am thinking about making the 9 hour round trip to the Polaris dealership in Chattanooga, TN this weekend. They are so much less than anywhere around here it would be worth the drive. Let me hear from you!

The new tires are radials which mean that they handle a lot better than the Goodyears. They wont take you through the same stuff than the Goodyears will (mud wise) but seem to be nice tires. If you didnt like the ride of the P650 that you rode, then the Sportsman should definately please you. You may also want to look into the SP600. Very comparable to the SP700 power wise, but with better gas mileage. Also look into the SP700 EFI if you want the baddest Sportsman ever!
