Yamaha Grizzly exhaust? Ideas?
#1
I just bought an 04 Griz and want to either improve the factory exhaust or purchase an aftermarket muffler. Anyone have suggestions which aftermarket is best for the $? A bud of mine modified his outlet cover to 1-1/2" pipe and drilled out his baffles on his 02 Griz and it backfires all the time when he lets off the gas?? Someone was selling a aluminum version of the 1-1/2" aftermarket cover on Ebay 3-4 months ago but I can't find them anymore.

Billet exhaust tip! I have one of these with a K+N filter and love it. Its not as lous as a slip-on muffler and way cheaper. The Grizz comes from Yamaha WAY too rich and the combo I use leans it out perfect. It also makes the Grizz sound like it should.

BigDaddy,
I repeat ...
Leave it stock ... don't F it up.
Yamaha is known for being terrible for warranty coverage. If they know you've done ANYTHING they could deny you. You'll get arguments here that they have to PROVE the added part caused the failure, but don't forget, they have the purse strings. Thay can bust your ba!!s, and you in the mean time have no quad during 'negotiations'.
You have a fine machine as it sits ... let it sit as it is, and by all means, don't make it loud.

You got a good point Kodiak & Rev, maybe I should just wait until the warranty runs out and then look at possibly doing something. 4 of my friends are talking about doing something either billet end or complete mufflers I will just wait and let them spend the $ and see how they like it.
Thanks for the input guys.

I have the extended warranty on my bike and the tip and K+N filter is on it whenever I go to the shop. In fact the local Yamaha shop here is interested in buying a few of these tips to put on NEW stock bikes. They usually "fix" a few up in the showroom with things like a K+N filter, metal skid plates and other things and they might put some of these tips on next. They ALSO agree it makes it sound like a Grizz should. Its louder but not loud like a slip on or full pipe. It gives it a "grumble" not a "roar". As stated before the Grizz is WAAAAAY TOO rich from the factory and this set-up makes it perfect. Instead of a black spark plug from being too rich mine is now a very nice carmel color and that meens the bike is set up PERFECT, if the plug tip is white its too lean.

Better yet, put off doing it to your machine and let your buddies do it to theirs. wait a year or so and see if they have any clusterf*cks with their machine. If not then maybe consider it.
