hotwls13 was this trailer spindle like any regular trailer spindle with tappered Timmkin bearings? Or was it some sort of a weird ball bearing deal?

I went there tonight, the 5x8 trailer has 15" tires and it's $750 3500# axle. The $500 one is a 4x8 and has 12" tires with only a 1200# axle. Now back to the drawing board. I may just scrap the whole trailer thing and put the cart in the back of my truck. If I buy a trailer it will either be the 5x8 from carson for $750 or a 4.5x8 snowbear from Home Depot for $500. The snow bear has 12" tires but the axle is rated at 2000#. The snowbear is a tilt bed model, and has the rear ramp included. The quality is better on the carson, I just don't have $800 (after tax) for a trailer right now. I will probably hold out for the Carson though.

No it was your standard spindle with a pin through the hole. I realize now that I shouldn't have followed the directions and torqued the nut to 90 lbs. I should ahve backed the nut off a little and then put the pin in. The directions didn't say this and they stressed to get the nut on at "90 lbs (Very Tight!)". Oh well live and learn. So, maybe the trailers aren't that bad, just the assembly instructions.

Yep, thought that what happened; tight bearing got hot, locked up and smoked the tires.
Don't you just love those instructions? LMAO, sometimes you need an interpreter to interpret the instructions!!!!!! They pay the guy a dollar an hour to write english instructions. Ha ha ha ha ha..................

Was this the single axle utility trailer? If so they sell for ~$1000 in San Jose, California.

Yep this is the single axle 15" wheels 3500# axle 5x8. It has three sides about 2 feet tall made out of angle iron. No tailgate. Pretty stout lookin trailer. Oh and white wheels, not chrome.

I was looking into one a couple months ago. I ended up not getting it mainly cause I wanted to haul two quads and would still have to put one in the back of the truck. I figured that if I was going to spend the money on a trailer I better get one to haul both quads. I got an aluminum triton two place XT10-101 tilt trailer which works out great to load and unload. I spent $981 on the trailer. it came with the bigger wider high speed tires.

one thing you may want to look into is going to gander mountain, they sell the same trailers as you find at tractor supply co. and lowes home improvement. gander mountain sells the same trailers but they are about $200 less than the other stores. bad thing with steel trailers though is that they rust. with aluminum you don't have to worry about the rust.

by the way, welcome to the forums.

Yeah your right. I just found the manual online. 90 lbs for the lug nuts. I sure fell like a dumb**s. My next trailer will be pre-assembled for obvious reasons.

I guess at the end of my last post. I should have said not only mechanical ability, but also can READ. OK OK just kidding even I make some big mistakes. But really just about every car and truck have atleast one axil (indepentent suspention, both axils) with barrings and cotter pins and any tourque would kill them.
But this gives me another reason for an update. First a few guys said I was better off with the 12 inch wheels if no other reason fewer turns of the bearing. For the other 11 dollar difference for your 8 inch wheels. I probally still would go with the 12 inch.
Since the last post I've put on about 2000 mi. I live about near where Rolling Rock beer is brewed. I have been to Erie, Shenego. and Altoona Pa. a few times. Also Chilicoffee, Ohio. I couldn't be happier with it and still recommend it to any one with mechanical ability and can read--come on just kidding!!!!!
