Its the grease for the grizzly primary clutch. Just cleaned and re-lubed my clutch a few weeks ago due to getting water in the clutch housing by going through water over the racks. If you ever have flooded the clutch housing you will want to clean and re-lube the primary due to contaminating the grease.

The YFM660FP (Grizzly) service manual says to use Yamaha Grizzly grease (90 g) on the primary sheave and to use BEL-RAY assembly lube on the secondary sheave. Order it from your dealer.

You have to remove and re-lube the front clutch, which is the primary clutch. To do this you have to remove the cover over the primary which supports the end of the driveshaft. There are 4 10mm bolts holding it on. (Torqed to 7.2 ftlb) Now you can remover the primary. You will need a large strap wrench or some way of holding the primary to get the nut off. (torqed to 72 ftlb) Once you get the nut off of the primary, the outside sheave of the primary will slide off of the shaft. Remove the belt, and then remove the collar and the inside sheave of the primary. The inside sheave just needs to be cleaned up and re-installed. The collar needs to have the grease cleaned out from inside of it, re-lubed and installed. (do not lube the outside of the collar, you do not want to get grease on the face of the sheaves)

Now for the ouside sheave of the primary. Remove the phillips head screws in the sheet metal cover. Remove the cover. There is a rubber O ring under this cover, so takes a little bit of prying to get it off. Once you have this cover off lift out the primary pully cam with the 4 plastic sliders on it, and remove the 8 weights. Wipe out the old grease and dirt and then clean everything with a solvent like mineral spirits. I used an old paint brush with mineral spirits to get down into all of the channels in the primary sheave. After everthing is clean, make sure it is dry, and now you are ready to grease and re-install everything. Put grizzly grease in the hole in the center of the sheave and put grease in all 8 of the channels that the weights run in. Grease the outside of the 8 weights and install them in the primary sheave. Grease the surface of the primary pully cam that contacts the weights, then install the 4 plastic sliders on it and intall it on the primray sheave. Put the rubber O ring on the primary and then put the cover on and install the 8 phillips head screws. Slide the outside sheave onto the driveshaft over the collar and onto the spline. Re-install the nut and torqe to 72 ft lbs.

Now to re-install the belt, you will need 2 jacking screws to put into the secondary. The bolts needed are 6mm X 45mm and they go into the 2 holes near the center of the secondary. (rear clutch) Screwing these bolts in will spread your secondary sheaves allowing you to intall the belt. Make sure that you install the belt with the arrow pointing forward. Now re-install the cover over the primary and then the cover over the clutch housing.

If this write up is too hard to understand, I suggest either getting a copy of the service manual, or maybe your dealer will print out the pages for you.

i greased the clutch last night and your directions made it very easy. Thanks for all the help. My grizzly 600 now goes 53mph (before it went 30).
Thanks a ton,
Marcus
