Default Replacing left outer cv joint on eiger

Has anyone replaced the cv joint on the eiger yet? DO you have to by a half shaft or can you just replace the bad joint? Also how much is this going to cost?

Haven't had any repairs necessary on the eiger yet (600 miles). Curious as to what happened to your cv joint. Sorry I cant help w/your question. Good luck with the repair.

My bike has 3500 miles of HARD USE on it. A while back my cv boot was torn on a long trail ride, and unfortunitly I could not repair it before it was contaminated with clay, volcanic ash/sand and other debris.

I had to replace my right cv joint and it was the entire shaft that I had to replace. It was because the CV boot ripped and dirt damaged the joint without my knowledge. The repair cost was around $300CDN (labour included although it was a neighbour who repaired it. Now I am buying CV Guards so that this won't happen again!

You can buy outer cv joints and rebuild kits. Try checking on Ebay!

Theres a clip holding the shaft onto the differential.

Once you have everything disconnected from the wheel side of the shaft, you need a weighted puller (like a dent puller) that has the same thread as your axle nut. I made something that grabbed the stock nut. Screw it on the driveshaft, pull the slack out of the CV joints to avoid shocking it, and a moderate tap with the weight will pop the axle out of the differential. Should replace the clip when reassembling. Should come with the CV boot kit. You don't need to bang the shaft back on either, you just compress the clip and the shaft will slide on and click in place.

Then you just disassemble the shaft from the differential end if I remember right.

I can't tell you how many of the boots I went through on a 98 Arctic Cat 400. Stinks having to take it completly apart to get to the outer boot.
