If a recon is to small, why dont you put a warn 424 which makes ur quad switch from 2wd to 4wd

It is going to be almost impossible to find a new 300+cc quad for $3000. The 250cc quads are in the $3000. price range.

A while back, I was at a local atv dealership. There was a brand new Quadrunner even though it had not been produced for a couple years.

You MIGHT be able to find an older model Rancher or something that has just been sitting in a crate. It wouldn't hurt to ask at a couple local dealerships.

You will probably have to buy used.

How about a AC 250 2x4? The retail price isn't much over $3000. It would be a little larger and a lot heavier than the Recon, Ozark, or Bruin 250.

Maybe a Polaris Trail Boss 330? If you can get the dealership to drop their price some.

Yeah, I thought about the 424, but I still have all the wieght, thus turning will still be stiff. The 4x4 jus't isnt as enjoyable to ride as the 2wd. The 4wd actually causes back pain for the wife and I, but going over the same trail on her 2wd we feel no discomfort.
I realize my limited funds will probably keep me in the used market, that doesn't bother me.

As far as Hondas, you now have 3 choices: The Recon, Rancher, and new Foreman. The Recon is smallish, so it is best for older kids and small adults. The Rancher rocks! I have ITP Holeshot ATR's on it, and it is even better than stock! It is very sporty, and I ride it like a sport bike that has high ground clearance. Have not ridden the Foreman, but I love that blue color.

Hello MHWASH. You should consider the Polaris Trailblazer. We have two. I use one for plowing (see my pics). Although they may be technically sports quads, they have the power of much bigger utes (850 lb towing). They are also much bigger than the smaller utes (Recon) so you will not feel claustrophobic. We bought an after market rear rack for $80 (the Polaris one is to small). I paid $2800 for each one. You can also get a front rack for it.
I hope this helps you

After the suggestion from Coyotechaser, I have been reading more about the 424. Everyone that has one seems to be happy with it. It also took care of allot of the things that I dislike about my 4x4. I am going to go this route. Thanks for all the suggestions.

P.S. Hunting coyotes is my #1 hobbie.

Look at the Yamaha Burin 350 2 wheel drive. Check it out on there web-site. I got Yamahas and Hondas so I'm not brand loyal.

If there isn't anything else wrong with your 300. It would cost far less to add the Warn 424. If you decide that you do not like it. It would help sell the quad to someone that wants a switchable 4 wheel drive. The Honda 300 has such a good reputation. Some think that it's the most reliable quad ever built.
You could end up with a lesser machine for more money.

If your 4x4 is in good shape you might find someone willing to trade you there 2wd 300 (or equal quad) thats a little newer for your bike because of the 4wd. There are lots of choices out there if you do buy one instead of trade you might try to find a Kawasaki Prarie 300, Honda 300, BigBear 350 or 400, Maybe a Rancher. Just remember not everyone treats a quad the same way, Like our group, there isnt one bike that I ride with (including mine) that when when we are done with them I would own, They are wore out.

I just wanted to let MHWASH know that he will be very happy with the 424 Select. In the 2WD mode steering effort will be almost as light as your wife's 2WD. If you go the 424 route you won't be dissapointed.
