03 kodiak 450 valve ticking
#1
Hello all, Just set the the valves on the kodiak and it seems to tick pretty loud, just wondering is this normal? Because before, it didnt tick like this. Also what a job it is to get all the plastic outa the way thats a real pain so next time I check the valves I plan on cutting a access hole in the plastic, has anyone done this yet? If anyone has the valve specs for the 03 will ya shoot em this way.

Is it posible they were set on the wrong tdc?
Were you able to wiggle them, before adjusting them? Did one of them need to be adjusted alot? Did you retighten the nut, and the adjuster?
both are adjusted on a cool motor,
in is .0024"-.0039"
ex is .0063"-.0079"

Hey thanks for the help, Yes I got the motor on the correct TDC,and yes the motor was cold, around 39* out.If I remember right the specs under the seat said EX-.016=.020 IN-.06=.010. The Ex seemed real tight I couldnt get a .014 in under it.

Those numbers you found under the seat are in mm. Except the specs for the exhaust are off by a factor of 10.
It should read
intake .06 mm to .10 mm
exhaust .16 mm to .20mm( not .016 to .020).
If you were using inch feeler gauge on metric measurements, that would explain it.
If you do the math conversion, for mm to inch, the numbers are
in .0024" to .0039"
ex .0063" to .0079"
These are directly from a yamaha service manual.
