Let's look at utility quads. Many people will accessorize their new quad with rack bags, winch, gun scabbard or maybe a windshield. Great these are accessories and really don't affect the performance or reliability of your quad. People that add monster tires may need it for the conditions in which or where they ride. But these tires not only affect the safety of the quad but change the performance/reliability. I'm not saying that the larger tires are unsafe like a set of Firestones on your SUV. But, these tires change the ride height or center of gravity and the drive line angles or geometry. This will cause unnecessary stress and premature wear on your quads u-joints, 4-wheel drive system and suspension. The same thing goes for lift kits. You may need the ground clearance but you're changing ride height and suspensions and drive line geometry even more. Combined both modifications on any make quad Honda, Polaris, Yamaha or whatever, will make for a killer looking and a well performing quad in the mud. If you're in to this kind of thing Great do what you want it's your quad. Just expect some down time and some unnecessary repairs which may not have been needed if you kept it stock. When it comes time to replace the stock tires on my quad I will change to a more aggressive pattern but I will keep the size the manufacture intended.

Regarding warranties on machines¡K If your dealer sells you a new quad with this kind of modification, I would hope that they would honor the warranty. But if this is added yourself I could see how warranties could be voided.

Below is an excerpt from Polaris's web site in regards to aftermarket equipment but especially larger diameter tires¡K I realize that they say a lot of this only so you by original replacement parts but it's still something to consider.

„h Polaris Industries Inc. does not recommend the use of any aftermarket modification on our products. A failure that is attributed to the use of any aftermarket modification will not be covered under the warranty policy.

„h Polaris Industries Inc. only recommends the use of OEM parts and accessories.

„h When looking into aftermarket tires and wheels, please remember to purchase tires and wheels that are the same size as the original factory tires and wheels.

„h If you are planning on installing larger diameter tires and wheels on your ATV, please remember that you must maintain the proper ratio between the front and rear wheels. I.E., If you install one-inch larger diameter tires on the front of your ATV, you must install one-inch larger diameter tires on the rear of your ATV. This principle will also apply to the use of larger wheels. You must retain the original ratio between the front and rear wheels in order for the Demand 4 Drive system to operate safely and correctly.

„h Polaris Industries Inc. only recommends that if you are planning on installing wider wheels on your Polaris ATV, that you use only OEM or factory specified accessory tires.

„h Polaris Industries Inc. does not recommend the use of spacer kits for the hubs. The use of spacer kits increases the stress on the drive shafts and hubs and can lead to premature failure.

„h Please always remember to use low gear when riding your Polaris ATV in deep water or muddy conditions when using larger wheels and tires. Your Polaris ATV was not designed to use tires and wheels larger than what is installed from the factory. The use of larger tires and wheels increases the stress on your ATV's hubs, CV joints, and related transmission parts.
