OK to run winch when submerged?

My brother works for Warn (building winches). They keep samples of every winch submerged in a tank. Every so often they will pull one out of the water tank and test it. He has yet to see one that did not work perfectly when coming out of the tank. After the test, they put the winch back in for additional "conditioning."

Ok, OK OK....
Here is the straight straight scoop from a guy who has worked there 16 years...............
The 2.5 or 2500 # winch IS NOT SEALED..... whe you take it for a swim you should ALWAYS at the end of the day,,, run out 20 ft or wire rope, then wind it back in...
this will disapate the water that has gotten into the motor area.. If you do this often then yes, you will have to take it apart and "service" the unit like that other did via the dealer...
PS, on the 3.0 the motor is not sealed and needs to have the same thing done when going for a swim.... only the gear train is sealed.....
Winch on brothers.,....... Glad to hear that it got you out ......
