Default which winch????

I think im in the market for a winch for the old fourwheeler, i was wondering which winch would be best to get. I then warn is a big name, but its also more exspensive then ramsey, super winch, and milemarker. Does anybody know bout any of these other winches, thanks

Default which winch????

I have a Ransey 2500 wireless remote on my AC. Finally got to use it last week winching a buddy up a steep ravine. Worked great. However, I long ago ditched the whole wireless thingie because the 'antenna' fell off. My next winch (for my wife's machine) will be another Ramsay (simply because I already have one and it works fine) but it will not be wireless. I don't see the need for it. I want to be on the throttle when I'm using the winch because the batteries in these ATV's are pretty wimpy and these winches suck mega-power (no matter which one you get, and no matter WHAT they say about 'power saving'). I'd like to have a wired remote, like the one on my pickup. That way I can sit on the machine and control the throttle, or step off and still use the winch. Wired is better than wireless, but that's just my personal preference.

Just be sure you also include a long tow strap in your winch equipment (maybe two of them!) because it always seems like there's more distance between whatever you want to hook to, and the end of the winch cable -

hey, so does your winch not have a rocker on the handlebars like the warn's? Thats what my buddies have, but it does seem like the smartes thing.

No, it doesn't. It had a pocket 'key ring' kind of thing for the wireless remote, but I threw that away after the antenna failure. It does have a toggle switch that I mounted on the fender (in a bad spot I might add, but that's my fault). I'm going to see if I can add a wired remote switch to this thing. I'd go for the 'rocker' switch too, but if given my druthers, I'd druther have the wired remote, just because it gives you an option of where you want to be standing or sitting when "the action starts"...

MrTommy,

I'm not clear on what you're talking about with not liking the wireless remote. Are you saying that the wireless remote doesn't work if you're using it while sitting on the atv, in that it only works if you're off and in front of the atv or something? I'm just curious because I was considering getting a Ramsey 3000 with the wireless.

What winch will be the most reliable? Is it worth just getting the warn?

No, I'm saying I just didn't like the way the antenna just peeled off of the spot I put it. This may well have been my fault, but I followed the instructions and used alcohol to clean the spot, pressed the sticky antenna onto the upper inside of the 'hood' area, and forgot about it. Later on I discovered it fell off. Just peeled off. So now (cuz I did see a use for the 'remote' aspect), I'd rather have a wired remote. Just like I prefer having a wired computer network here at home instead of a "WiFi" setup. The wireless remote works no matter where you are (unless it falls apart like mine did).

Any of the name brand winches are great. I just happen to get a good deal on the Ramsey when I bought it (a year ago).

I'd get the Warn or Ramsey. Lots of people are satisfied with the 2500lb models.

Search around on the net and you'll find them a lot cheaper than the major catalogs.

I have the Ram 3k on the Griz and Warn 2k on the Kodiak. I've had to take down the Warn to grease and clean. Not very water resistant. The Ram 3k has yet to fail but the rocker switch is cheap and bulky. I will be buying the warn tiny rocker for the Ram.
My bud has the Warn 2500 on his griz and I cant tell the difference between it and the Ram 3k in straight line pulling. Double line, the Ram 3k pulled much better.

Just my feelings in the matter........
