Not in extreme situations I have rode with them in............in deep packed snow they dont kick in soon enough and your stuck before you can take off. I know.....I have had to help the riders push them to get them going again after getting stuck where even my 3 wheel drive Rancher does better.
Also in grapefruit size loose rocks going up steep draws the Polaris system will throw rocks with the rears before a front kicks in (the area we rode only took a split second of not having all 4 tires moving to screw you over)
The bomb system is any better in these nasty conditions where you need full lock from the second you start feeding it small amounts of throttle.
Other than those 2 areas I think both systems offer the right rider great control in all other conditions.
For some folks not having to think about when they need the locker is a plus.
I prefer to choose lock on my own and not have the quad do it for me.
I've had 2 Polaris sportsmans, neither of them done what you're talking about, he's got a problem with his, needs to take it in to the dealer,i ride in the snow all the time, mine kicks in,in a spit second,i usauly break the trail for the honda 3-wheel drives, with my true 4-wheel drive that only Polaris has,by the way how did you make it through that grapefruit size rocks with one wheel spinning in the air and one on the ground doing nothing, awd,all ATVs should be this easy, shift on the fly, you ain't got to stop, and start pushing a bunch of buttons before getting into something nasty, or climb a steep snowy hill, so i ask you, what in the name of god and every thing else that is holy, what could be easier;;;;wayout, out,........

This is sometimes too late. If I were serious about mud, that would leave in my mind, 3 machines: the KingQuad, the Grizzly and the Brute Force. Would you rather flip a switch/push a button and not have to worry about the diff being locked until you "unlock" it, or would you rather pull a lever depending on how much lock you want, but have to HOLD that lever as long as you need the extra traction? If you'd rather hit it and forget it, you gotta take the Brute Force off the list. So now you've got the KingQuad and the Grizzly. Well, in complete honesty, the KingQuad is just a Grizzly improved in about every aspect: power, handling, suspension, plus EFI. King is also set up for a winch from the factory, installing is very easy. You can say I'm biased, because I am, but I was in the same boat last summer and I got the King for a reason. Just giving you my insight on this.
Dont forget the Arctic Cat!

I'm just going by the machines the original poster listed. He made no mention of the Cat.

While the outty 800 its like a limited slip honda only when one tire spins for so long it will finally lock the front end but if you let off the gas you have to do it all over again... there are some vids posted of it over at highlifter and its not very good so far.

and no polaris isn't the only one that has true 4wd actually you don't even have true 4wd you have awd and it does have its disadvantages... suzuki kawasaki yamaha and ac all have TRUE lockers... they pull a lever or flip a switch and they're locked when they want to be not one something slips.

The Kawasaki is not a true locker, it has a lever that controls a clutch type mechanism in the front diff that can vary engagement. That is not a true locker. Holding the lever open doesn't make it a true locker either, it is still a clutch type system.

I am not familiar with Artic Cat at all so I can't comment on how their machine works, did not even think of them in my first post.

The Polaris is most definitely NOT the only machine capable of driving all wheels.

Wayout I am not talking about it happening on one Polaris....I ride and have rode with many.
As for the Polaris being a true 4x4 that couldnt be farther from the truth.....more like automatic all wheel drive..........Its far from being "TRUE"......A True 4X4 is one that stays locked in going downhill has well as uphill without going thru a 3 or 4 step process.
And come out west and ride in some real snow with me..............I'll be dragging you all over the mountain with my Rancher just so you can follow. I'm not talking about 3 inches of snow either.....its snow that your tires wont reach dirt in.
