800 Max- Engine knock
#1
I'm buying a new 800 Max XT, however when the dealer started it up there was a knock in the engine. They found a circle clip missing from one of the pistons and the wrist pin was hitting the cylinder wall. The dealer said they are going to replace the cylinder, piston and wrist pin and the bike should be good as new. My problem is, should I take this bike (with a 3 yr. warranty) or wait for another one (6 mo. warranty) to come in.

If it were me I would wait and get a different one.....when I buy something new I kind of like it to be new from the factory.
You never know what else wasnt put together right on that motor.
Unless he is willing to give you a good discount on it I would pass.

the positive 3 year warranty the negative not trusting the motor so well it is up to you i guess for me i would take it sounds like just a missed c-clip and i have seen the repercussions of that before on a 2-stroke and afterward when you fix it all up works great.

I wouldn't bite, too many unknowns. Your dealer might have the best of intentions of honoring the warranty.... until a big repair bill comes his way. All of a sudden he's trying to make a 50/50 deal on parts and labour etc. I would rather start with a brand new bike, without any issues. Maybe tell him you'll take it, if it's heavily discounted with a full disclosure, no loophole warranty.
