Default Tire Weight Issue

I'm about to wear this one out I know, how much difference does the tires weight affect power? I was convinced on the Mud Lites B/C of their low weight, but I really like the AMS Swamp Foxes too ( My dealer equally recommended compared to the ML's) and they're $70 cheaper per set!! The only downfall is they're 7 lbs HEAVIER per tire! Would that be a big power loss? I also like the BKT "Wings"-they're about 6 lbs heavier than the ML's. I have my Vinny piped and jetted, so I KNOW it'll pull any of them-I just don't want to lose no more power than ABSOLUTELY necessary! They're all 6 ply tires-maybe I could try a 4? Stock Dunfloppies are 2 right? Also, would the extra bite help me wheelie? Right now it pretty much just spins.

It would add a power loss but depends on you quad and its power. It wouldnt be too bad i guess if its just the tires. If you loose power than you probably wont be able to wheelie as good as before.

I guess I forgot to mention that they would be STOCK size. ( 25-8x12's and 25-10x12's ) I may go w/ 26's but I doubt it. Just want a little more bite w/ better puncture resistance over stock. And yes, it would be JUST tires. I like my factory polished aluminum rims.

If its the stock tire size than no there shouldnt be any power lose. Even the next size up there shouldnt be any power lose either.

Default Tire Weight Issue

All things being equal but price I would spend more money to get the lighter tire. 7 pounds is a lot per tire. That is more mass for the drivetrain to turn that extra weight and that means the engine has work harder to turn the drivetrain to turn the heavier tires. That is also more unsprung weight for the suspension control and dampen and that much more for the steering to have to move and control. Anything you can do to lighten up wheels and tires while getting them to still do the job you need them to do is all the better. I'd go with the lightest tire I could find of the tread type and construction and durability you need. If it costs a few bucks more so be it.

I would bet there weights are off. 7 lbs more in a 25" tire, WOW those things must be made out of lead.

Yeah, i dont think thats completely accurate. I know radial tires are a little lighter than bias, but not 7lbs!
