I know with a Honda Rubicon you're looking at anywhere from $200-$400. Don't know how close that is to your machine, but it's a definite "ouch" when it comes to the wallet. Is either gear salvagable?

I have been told it's not a good idea to run a worn gear against a new one in a differential. Is this wrong?

I just mean, is either one still in good shape? Rather than go by the theory you use, which I have heard as well, maybe if it still looks like it's in good shape, only buy one or the other. We did this on my Rubicon and experienced no ill effects, as I believe we reused the pinion gear.
