I had my Gorilla Winch for about 3 months, I used and abused it, swamped it, pulled my Ford F150 with it and it works perfect.

Warn 2500 or 3000. Yeah it is a name brand and you might pay a little more and they are no they are not perfect either but you get what you pay for. There is no way around it. If one stood out as the best they would charge more for it because they can, they have the best product.

my opinion.. can't go wrong with a warn... i'd like to try a ramsey someday. i've had to take my warn apart and re-grease it once in 1 year, but it gets heavily used in mud every 2-3 weeks.

has anyone tried the new 'polaris' brand winch?

How hard is it to self install a winch? My dealer wants $$$ for install which is just crazy. Any step by step anywhere in the ATV forums?

Thanks,
TC MAn

If you have the WARN iand basic tools it's like a three hour job... Mounting the winch is easy... it's running the wires properly that takes the time. THe WARN version has great instrucion booklet with nice wiring diagram..

If the dealer wants less than $60 to do it, I'd let them.. If more I'd do it...

Haha...I wish it was $60. They want something like 4 hours labor which is $300!

A socket set, electrical tester, a wire splice, electrical tape, zip ties and dielectric grease is all you need. The hardest part for me was finding what wire to splice into. It is definately worth it to do it yourself and save the money i think. Lets you get to know your atv a little more too.

That was my only concern (splicing). How did you finally figure out what wires to splice together?

You dont have to splice any wires, if you dont want it to be powered by the ignition. Mine has power with the quad on or off. It will NOT hurt, or drain your battery, unless you use it constantly without the quad running.
