Is the clicking coming from the winch or the contactor ?? You may just have a bad contactor or a bad connection on the contactor, battery or the winch itself.

Remember that warn has a one year factory warranty so if it's still in that time period get it replaced.

Default warn winch help

I finally took the winch apart and found that one of the plastic rings that seals the gears was all chewed up and jamed the winch. so I had to tear the whole thing apart and clean all the mud out of it. So far im not to impressed with the 2.5 warn winch. This is the second time ive had to do this in 4 months. the first time the two post that hold the ends together came lose and the cable got jammed between the spool and the end cap and messed up the rings so this time i still had a exta ring. I buoght the 05 eiger used and the winch was on it so i cant send it in because the warenty ran out. Also if you ever take one apart be carfull with the brushes in the end cap. I pulled the wire out of one but for now its jammed in there and its working but thats going to cost me another 60 bucks because Warn dosen't sell the brushes alone you have to buy the whole end cap assembly.

Default warn winch help

I am a new ATV owner, just recently purchased a slightly used 05' Honda Rincon. I am working on a project that requires movement of equipment up an 900' mountain in western oklahoma. I bought 2 brand new warn 2500lb winches, (the 2.5CI with mechanical brake installed) and tackled the slope. I get about 1/3 of the way up, using my winch about 4 or 5 times. Then, after freespooling the winch to for a new pull, I started wiching up a bad spot. After 5 or 6 feet of pulling, the winch popped and droped me to the end of my cable. I tried again and it pulled a bit and then dropped me. I got out and checked the engaging mechanism and reset it, pulled a little and then stopped because I didn't want to hit the end of the cable again.

A couple of questions:

If the winch is not fully engaged can it pull for a while and then kick itself out of gear?

If the winch stripped out, why didn't the mechanical brake catch me?

Is a 2500lb winch adequate for mountain climbing?

Thanks,

Kris
